Pop Your Cherry Pitch Lab
Write, edit, and submit your first pitch in two hours.
When: Monday, September 25, 2025
11 - 1 pm Pacific / noon - 2 pm Mountain / 2 pm - 4 pm Eastern
Where: Live 2-hr workshop on Zoom
What: I once was a 40-year-old pitch virgin. Then I met Amber, who singlehandedly demystified the terrifying dark woods of pitching scary editors at fancy publications. Not just in theory, but in practice. Because of Amber, I started pitching and collecting rejections. Yay!
After several rejections, I had another idea I wanted to pitch, and Amber's brilliant feedback helped me find the angle for the story that took it from “meh” to running in HuffPost.
Amber does not always wear a tiara, but she should, because she's magical. She knows what she's doing and she's kind and funny. AND she will help you pop your pitching cherry and collect rejections. And pretty soon, something will click and you'll get an ohmygodyes!
This class is not a presentation - it's a workshop where you'll write, edit, and submit a pitch. You must come ready to do the thing, but you don't have to do it alone. Read this entire page to make sure you can commit before signing up.
Cost: $47

Amber Petty
For 13 years, Amber was a professional actor in New York and Los Angeles. She starred Off-Broadway in 50 Shades! The Musical, taught and performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, and did improv around the world with Baby Wants Candy. And who could forget her one line on Masters of Sex? Note: It’s safe to look up the clip. You won’t find it and she’s not naked.
Growing tired of waiting for auditions, she started freelance writing. She started by writing pickle recipe roundups for Snooki’s blog and now writes for The New York Times, MTV, Thrillist, IFC, Bustle, Greatist, Healthline, Parade, and more.
In January 2021, Amber debuted her class Freelance Writing for Creatives. Since then, her students have appeared in Business Insider, Huffington Post, Vox, Eater, Thrillist, Buzzfeed, the San Francisco Chronicle, and many more. Most of them started with…no previous writing samples.
All of Amber’s writing work started after 30. If you’re not 21 and want to try writing (and getting paid for it), you’re not weird. It’s normal and you can start something new at any age. Amber can help you do it.

This Is for You, If:
What Will We do?
You'll come prepared, having done your homework (reading the pitch guide).
Amber will tell you everything you need to know about pitching your story and hype you up like the sparkly fairy godmother she is (20 minutes, which will include brainstorming time).
Then, we'll all draft our pitches together (20 minutes).
Amber will give feedback on as many pitches as possible (40 minutes).
We'll rewrite/edit our pitches, find editor info, etc (20 minutes).
Amber will cover questions and give final feedback (20 minutes).
At the end of the 2-hour workshop, we'll hit “send” together!
This Isn't a Good fit, if:
The Fine Print
Once you’re signed up, you’ll receive the Zoom invite for the live workshop plus a link to my pitch guide to prepare.
You Pinky promise:
If you get live pitch feedback, you commit to incorporating it during the workshop and then hitting send at the end of the workshop. Even if it’s not perfect. Even if you don’t love it. Even if you want to change your mind.
If you don’t get live pitch feedback during the workshop, Amber has agreed to provide personalized loom videos to EVERYONE who submits their pitch during the workshop. This is outrageously generous of Amber, so don't miss out on this opportunity to get guaranteed feedback from the prom queen of pitching!
If you get pitch feedback from Amber after the workshop because she didn't get to you live, you promise to incorporate it and send your pitch the next day at the very latest.
If you can’t come live, you will still get the recording and benefit from listening to other people's feedback, but you will not get custom pitch feedback from Amber. This workshop is best attended live.
